one of the best questions i've been asked recently

was about my relationship with instagram as an amateur photographer

it's contentious

i've made friends who have seen me go from "guy testing new phone camera" to picking up film photography again to having my work exhibited — and that's really meaningful to me. also meaningful to me: when i'm told that my work really does paint familiar landscapes in a new perspective.

but the drive to get my work noticed can (and has) affected the enjoyment i get out of creating art in the first place. do i feel ridiculous spamming dozens of hashtags and curators in the hopes of being noticed?

yeah
